      Mercedes-Benz may have unintentionally pushed Audi to outgun them by making their 2.0 liter AMG four-cylinder have such a high output of 354 horsepower. Audi now feels pressured to update their 2.5 TFSI which sees duty in the RS3 and TT-RS. Head of Quattro development Stephan Reil stated, “The five-cylinder engine will have a big future with us. But the numbers I see from AMG’s engine are enormous from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder."


      It seems Mercedes caught Audi off-guard and Audi did not think Mercedes would squeeze so much power from their four-cylinder. So, modifications are coming as Reil stated, "It’s OK to make those kinds of numbers with a competition engine, but in standard production engines that need to cope with all sorts of different conditions? But competition is competition and that’s what makes it a fun business to be in. The five-cylinder engine has to be EU6-compliant and we have to modify it."

      So, Audi wants to be EU6 emissions compliant with the motor but will also take the opportunity to modify it for more power. It will be interesting to see what they come up with and AudiBoost believes they will easily outpower the Mercedes motor. The 2.5 TFSI simply does not have to be as highly strung as the Mercedes 2.0 liter four banger.

        Kind of cool how Audi is giving Mercedes respect on their motor. Let's be honest, it will be easy for Audi to bump to the 2.5 TFSI to over 400 HP if they want so they have nothing to worry about.

        I just can't wait to see the Audi motor in a RS3 sedan or an RSQ3 SUV.

        I see nothing wrong with his comments. He pretty much said they are going to focus on emissions which is nice politically correct talk. Truth is they are going to probably put in stronger internals and up that boost.

        That's pretty badass that Audi admitted that. I too am surprised with the power output of that stock 2.0 liter. I wonder what Audi will do in return, I doubt they can just retune the 2.5TFSI and call it a day.

        That would put the turbo to do more work. More work = less life span for turbo. That's why. They need to be in the efficiency range at least if they want an engine/turbo to be reliable and last.

        Room for bigger turbo, twin scroll design. Dual ball bearing etc. It pretty much needs to be a BW EFR from factory LMAO
