    • The Audi R8 E-Tron will not go on sale - 10 made for research and development

You sure this time Audi? Positive? The off again on again off again on again Audi E-Tron is now officially dead. Despite making a cameo in the recent Iron Man 3 movie the car simply will end as a PR boost for Audi. The project was put on indefinite hold last year as Audi evaluated if it was worth bringing the car to market. Audi also made big boasts regarding having the quickest "production" electric car to lap the Nurburgring a claim they can no longer make.

Audi was expecting battery technology to advance further and be cheaper in order for this car to make financial sense. Interesting that Tesla can pull off an electric car with good performance but a company with the deep pockets of VW is not able to. The R8 E-Tron only had a range of 133 miles and a top speed of 124.27 miles per hour. Only 10 were made for research and development and so it shall remain.

Audi will be back with a proper electric super car.

As said above, it's all about battery technology.

Perhaps they weren't happy with the performance of the car?

TESLA is the bully now even though a smaller company, AUDI/VW are more interested in breaking into China where the money is right now and THEN later move the E-TRON forward, thats my 2 cents on this.

TESLA rules & have Toyota backing. The ex-Toyota Fremont, CA plant have plenty of room for TESLA to grow.

I'm guess they ditched this in favor of the upcoming R20.

        Risk/reward tolerance.

Audi execs have to make a board and shareholders happy whereas Tesla is run by a guy that's already a billionaire and has another company that shoots rockets into space. Clearly one co is willing take a lot more risks.

cool vid. thanks for sharing that. Perhaps one day soon the parts/knowledge to build this type of setup will become available to the point we can do some of these for fun just like any other build. We really need that battery breakthrough! It's like we're alchemists still trying to turn lead into gold...sooo close! Click here to enlarge
