    • First 11 second N63, BMS Stage II tuned F10 550xi goes 11.9@118 in the 1/4 mile - Comparison to Dinan Stage 2 550xi

It was just a matter of time and now the N63 V8's are in the 11's in the 1/4 mile with bolt on modifications. This all wheel drive F10 550xi has a BMS Stage II tune along with downpipes. That is enough to break into the 11 second range with a 11.943 @ 117.94 1/4 mile run. As the sedan is all wheel drive this was done on street tires and the 60 foot is a pretty good 1.743. Now let's put this performance in perspective versus the Dinan Stage 2 tune.

The BMS box costs roughly ~$400. Seriously, that is not a typo and a zero is not missing. The Dinan Stage 2 tune costs $3,499.00. The Dinan tune gets you a 12.5 @ 112 in the 1/4 mile. That Dinan badge on the trunk may impress people who do not know N63 V8 tuning options but everyone else with the 'cheaper' tune on their 550i will be too far in front to see it.

Good question. Just assume race gas.

Race gas mix on the fuel.

No question that BMS is the better value, but not a great comparison with the Dinan time (although, I doubt they even offer a race gas file).

Actually if really comparing to Dinan there is a better comparison. Another 550 Xi w/ OEM downpipes (so really tune only) ran 12.0@117. IIRC a bit of race gas mixed in there too. But fewer mods.

Flash tuning is going to be the king as always especially when turbo upgrades are factored in but there will also be a piggyback market as always.

Dinan is just an over priced SUPER CONSERVATIVE tune that probably bumps boost 3-4psi at the most...Dinan, if im not mistaken, doesnt really have any knowledge about the basics of the way that turbochargers work on bmw motors as good as Terry does... The only car dinan started to play with was the N54 car and that car being there highest kit, which is the stage 3 kit doensnt even hit 15psi of boost??? There N54 stage 3 is only tuned, has a spearco upgraded intercooler, I must say A VERY WELL DESIGNED CARBON FIBER INTAKE SYSTEM THEY HAVE FOR THE N54 IS BAD ASS!!! i Know they do have an excellent exhaust that gets rid of some of the back pressure... All that would cost well over $4K. for I think 400bhp? thats NOT to the tires. And this is with there full stage 3 kits so you get your nifty little dinan 3 badge lol. They could have gone wild with the N54 but i dont think they knew what they were doing compared to Burger Motorsports...Thats just my personal opinion. If i do end up geting the M4, I know I'm going to have to wait some till the end of next month or the beginning of may for sure until we get to play around with that and see what that s55 motor can do. My car is going to stay stock until Terry releases something but I do know one thing, you will def be getting ALL your money's worth. $400 bucks and probably 100whp and up from there, how can you go wrong? Dinan products and staff seem to be a little behind on there turbo technology and how its going to work with direct injection and valvetronics ect... seem to be alot less knowledgable of what the car can handle and superchargers are more DINAN's deal. lol but even doing a dinan supercharged E46 m3, it still only makes like 400whp...maybe

Dinan was turbocharging S14's decades before Terry ever decided to release a piggyback.

I'm not a Dinan fanboy and kudos to Terry, because what they just accomplished is impressive, but it is tough to compare Dinan with a tuner like BMS or Cobb or Vishnu. Dinan has built a brand around matching BMW's warranty, not providing the best value (because they definitely aren't) or the fastest times. Because of that, they will always be more conservative in what they do. BMS, Cobb, Vishnu, etc can and will (thankfully Click here to enlarge ) push the limits more. That doesn't mean they aren't safe (I run one of those tunes myself), just means they aren't having to balance the cost of warranty repairs vs. setting records and adding significantly more power.

We understand the differing philosophies and approaches. Look, BMS and Dinan are vastly different in scope and accomplishment. That said, it looks like Dinan is now chasing the dollar. What I am calling into question is his integrity. How can he put out a video like that and then backtrack so quickly to chase dollars?
