    • Why is the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder so fat? 3920 pound curb weight, full test numbers

3920 pounds for the second generation Audi R8 V10 Spyder? Huh? Where is the weight loss? For some reason the Audi R8 is much heavier than its Lamborghini Huracan sibling. Lamborghini claims the Huracan Spyder weighs 3397 pounds.

Even if that is a bit optimistic why is the R8 so much damn heavier? It is no wonder McLaren is crushing everyone in performance. They are combining a strong motor with a lightweight chassis. A McLaren 570S is almost 900 pounds lighter than this car.

The R8 still performs well of course. An all wheel drive 5.2 liter V10 revving to almost 9k rpm that is paired to a dual clutch transmission definitely should. 0-60 takes only 3.2 seconds and the 1/4 mile flashes by in 11.4 seconds at 125 miles per hour.

Good numbers, but not great. A weight loss of 500 pounds is exactly what it needs.

It is still beautiful though either way, right? C&D test numbers below.

It is with driver 75 kg and 90% fueltank.
        So without that 3600.
The new Plus is 15 kg lighter. 🤗

The Huracan Spider is 100 kg less than the R8 Spyder in dry weight.
If dry weight in the Lambo are without oil and cooling water there is less diff.
In EU you have to write the weight with driver 68 kg and loggage 7 kg and 90% fuel.
        Curb
        R8 Spyder 1795 kg
        R8 Plus Spyder 1770 kg
        Huracan Spider 1685 kg aprox.
        The McLaren is lighter.

Huracan Coupe dry is 1422 kg. So 120 kg extra for Spider.
Performante Coupe dry is 1382 kg, andthe Performante Spyder dry must be 1502 kg.

Yes, but Stickey write that the Huracan is 3397 lbs, that is 1541 kg dry weight and in lambo homepage it is 1542 kg, so 1 kg or 2 lb in diff. But still you have to + aprox 35 lb for engine oil and cooling water and 310 lb for the driver and fuel, så the Huracan is aprox 3745 lb. So the diff is 245 lb to the Audi Spyder and less for the Spyder Plus.

We know what dry weight is I quoted Lamborghini's US figure.

Let's stick with Car and Driver tested weights.

        Huracan Coupe: 3423 pounds
        R8 V10 Plus coupe: 3684 pounds

They don't have a Huracan Spyder test I can find.

The Audi is 1655 kg or 3649, the rest could be xtra from the list.
The Huracan is 1422 kg or 3135 lb dry + the aprox 345 lb = 3480 lb.
But anyway the diff is large.
But the Audi is also a better daily driver, less noise is more weight normaly.

So you still compares with the Huracan in dry in Spider. If tho coupe is 3423 lb the Spider is not 3397 lb

Right. That's the quoted weight from Lamborghini on their site which is dry I would hope.
