    • The 2018 B9 Audi S5 Convertible is fat and slow - 4187 pound curb weight, 13.5@103 1/4 mile

The B9 Audi S5 with its 3.0 TFSI twin scroll top mount turbo V6 is supposed to be a big improvement over the B8 generation. It isn't. Car and Driver tested one out and the numbers are underwhelming to say the least.

0-60 takes 4.8 seconds. The 1/4 mile takes 13.5 seconds at 103 miles per hour. How does this compare to the B8 Audi S5 Cabriolet with the 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 motor? Car and Driver got 0-60 in 4.9 seconds and a 1/4 mile sprint of 13.4 @ 105 out of the previous gen car.

The new car is slower despite being lighter. Not that it is light by any means at 4187 pounds but it is lighter than the B8 S5 tested curb weight of 4341 pounds.

How do you remove some weight, add a turbo powerplant, and not improve?

The B9 S4 and S5 simply are not impressing with their stock performance. An S4 sedan went 12.6 @ 109 in the 1/4 mile as it is obviously much lighter than the drop top but that time is nothing to brag about.

Audi did not improve the stock performance much if it all. The bright side? The ECU sure looks easy to reach.

The S4/S5 are sort of growing into their roles as not-really-performance cars since the RS cars have taken over at the top....the newest cars are rather ugly as well.
