BMW is to be commended for creating a niche with the X6 and a successful one at that. Essentially, they took what Mercedes-Benz did with the CLS creating the four door coupe segment and applied to an SUV giving it a lower roofline for sleeker looks. Now everybody else is scrambling to catch up and it seems Audi intends to join the fray with a Q8 to compete. The Q8 of course will be based on the Q7 so just as the X5 and X6 share a platform so will the Q7 and Q8. ...Published on 05-21-2013 01:24 AM
This comes off a bit spiteful and bitter from Audi. A recent press release titled "Not so fast to put Tesla on that particular pedestal" by Audi lobs shots at the electric car maker. Audi even says the automotive industry is giving Tesla way too much credit. The issue Audi takes is with recent articles about Tesla sales beating Mercedes, BMW, and Audi that Audi claims are not accurate. The reasoning behind this is that Audi sales trump Tesla sales. ...Published on 05-19-2013 11:42 PM
Congratulations to Audi for winning the second race of the 2013 DTM season which took place at Brand Hatch in the UK. Audi started the race in a strong position with four cars qualifying in the top five spots. Winning the race is nice but Audi is still in last place in the manufacturer standings with BMW remaining in first due to a strong performance taking second, third, fourth, and fifth place spots to pick up a good amount of points. ...Published on 05-17-2013 10:21 PM
The current Audi Q7 is a solid SUV but also pretty heavy with the diesel and V8 (which has now been replaced with a lighter 3.0 TFSI) versions coming in at about 5500 pounds. Audi has shown a lot of emphasis on as of late on lightweight materials showing they are very aware their vehicles used to be the heaviest in the segment. That is changing and Audi is quite serious about it going so far as to shave 800 pound from the Q7 for the next generation Q7 model. ...Published on 05-15-2013 10:13 PM
APR announced back in February they would be upgrading their 4.2 FSI supercharger kits to a Stage III offering which would feature the Eaton TVS 1740 blower. This is a seemingly larger supercharger than what they were previously using although still a roots setup. APR previously did not have a supercharger application for the R8 4.2 V8 but with their development on the RS4 and RS5 4.2 V8's they seem to want to tackle the R8 as well. ...Published on 05-14-2013 10:21 PM
The damn Japanese wonder robot does it again in a comparison against the new facelifted R8 but at least this time it's a fair comparison done by MotorTrend with a stock R8 versus a stock GTR unlike what Chris Harris recently did. Ok, so no tuner special GTR upsetting the balance but that does not matter as the GTR still comes out on top. It manages to do so not only in the 1/4 mile sprint but also around the roadcourse with quite the margin of victory. ...Published on 05-08-2013 01:13 AM
The 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus is currently the highest performance Audi R8 options in the lineup. It has the big 5.2 liter V10 with a more aggressive tune sporting 550 horsepower. The dual clutch transmission replaces the sequential manual previously used for quicker shifts. This thing should accelerate impressively especially with its all wheel drive helping the launch so what did Emdunds get out of it? An [email]11.3@123 .8 in the 1/4 mile. ...Published on 05-05-2013 07:12 AM
Well, no big surprise here seeing Audi continue to go undefeated after the second round of the FIA WEC (World Endurance Championship). Audi even managed to get all three R18 E-tron Quattro cars on the podium with a perfect 1-2-3 finish. Pretty much as expected after the Audi E-Tron Quattros qualified a perfect 1-2-3. The third round is the 24 Hours of Le Mans and considering Audi was testing the aerodynamics they will be running for the 24 Hours at this race, they sure seem ready for another Le Mans victory. ...Published on 05-04-2013 03:51 AM
This is almost starting to get a bit boring isn't it? A new year brings the same dominance we have seen from the R18 E-tron hybrid race cars. You may remember the R18 E-Tron took the pole for the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year and also became the first hybrid to win the race. With the second race of the FIA World Endurance Championship set to take place later today, the R18 E-Tron sure looks like the favorite again this year qualifying 1-2-3 for the FIA 6-hours at Spa. ...Published on 05-03-2013 05:41 AM
Here is AWE-Tuning's exhaust system for the new Audi RS5 Coupe with the 4.2 FSI motor and a 7-speed dual clutch S-Tronic gearbox. The 4.2 FSI motor gets a small horsepower bump over the RS4 and now has an output of 450 horses. Unfortunately, it seems Audi has squeezed out basically everything they could from this motor while keeping it street legal and able to run pump fuel. The AWE exhaust system only gains 3 horsepower at all four wheels. ...Published on 04-26-2013 09:42 PM
Well, this is news of sorts. Audi made some waves when the R10 diesel supercar for the street based on inspiration from the LeMans diesel race cars was said to be in development. As of right now, there apparently is no business case for the diesel supercar. That is exactly what Audi technical director Wolfgang Durheimer stated, "No business decision on series production, but we hope to create one." So, as of right now, this car is not approved for production and all the talk has just been talk. ...Published on 04-25-2013 08:44 PM
2449 pounds? 310 horsepower? A power to weight ratio of 7.9 pounds per horsepower? AudiBoost likes, AudiBoost likes this a lot! Say hello to the Audi Ultra TT Quattro Concept. Audi managed to lighten the standard TT by a whopping 661 pounds. That is a heck of a lot of weight to shave and Audi did it in impressive fashion. Extensive use of carbon fiber, fiber-reinforced plastic, and magnesium helps Audi shave a lot of weight including 220 pounds from the body alone. ...Published on 04-23-2013 11:41 PM
Sport Utility Vehicles are now the biggest priority over at Audi? Well, that's exactly what Audi's technical chief Wolfgang Durheimer stated at the Shanghai car show. "SUVs are our biggest priority and an SUV bigger than the Q7 is one we could do. It would fit in our offerings. Bentley has shown what can be done with a car of this size. There is no limit at VW on market access or price strategy as long as you have a business case." ...Published on 04-20-2013 01:55 PM
Congratulations to GIAC who has been on quite the roll as of late. This roll continues with a new Audi record for the 6-speed manual B8 S4. They were able to hit 11.8@117 in the 1/4 mile with their B8 S4 equipped with GIAC Stage 2 software, AWE-Tuning pulley kit, AWE-Tuning resonated exhaust, 034 Motorsport test exhaust pipes, Roc Euro intake, and a Clutchmasters FX400 clutch upgrade. 11's in the manual with bolt on's is quite impressive. ...Published on 04-16-2013 08:10 PM
Good news Audi 4.0 TFSI V8 fans, a new exhaust option is available courtesy of AWE-Tuning. This exhaust system is available for the new Audi S6 as well as Audi S7. They state gains are 18 horsepower at the crankshaft but also dyno'd the exhaust on an all wheel drive Mustang dyno (good job AWE providing figures at the wheels) showing gains of 15 horsepower at the wheels at peak. Torque at the wheels goes from 378 to 395 pound-feet. ...Published on 04-14-2013 10:10 PM
The Audi A3 is getting more variants than ever before. Obviously there is the two door hatchback, then the four door hatchback, and the newest variant which is the Audi A3 sedan. That leaves one missing A3 variant which would be the cabriolet/convertible. Audi previous did release an A3 cabriolet although this car did not make it to the US market. With the new A3 sedan this may change this generation and chances are the best they have been for the USA to get such a cabriolet model. ...Published on 04-12-2013 07:03 PM
Would somebody at Audi please make up their mind on this car already? The last we heard of the all electric E-Tron R8 it set the fastest lap record on the Nurburgring for a "production" electric car with a laptime of 8:09. After that big announcement from Audi, the car was suddenly said to be put on indefinitely hold due to the cost. The batteries were apparently very expensive so Audi wanted to evaluate whether the car made any sense to produce. ...Published on 04-10-2013 03:24 AM
Not exactly a fair fight between these two cars here and AudiBoost is not sure why the French magazine Motorsport decided to compare these two models. It simply is not a fair fight as the V8 powered R8 is aimed at the Carrera/Carrera S and not the V10 R8 which should be going up against the 991 Turbo which is not even out yet. They equipped the Carrera S with the X51 Powerkit which boosts power by 30 horses but then handicapped it by choosing the manual transmission version to go up against the dual clutch R8 V10. Not a fair fight. ...Published on 04-09-2013 11:48 PM
Wow, some serious power here from tuner High Octane Racing which is based out of the Netherlands. The vehicle you see here is an Audi Sport Quattro designed to be an S1 replica which raced in the infamous Group B rally series. The Sport Quattro was the street car sold for homolgation purposes. The engine is the similar 2.2 liter inline-5 (rally cars had 2.1 liter motor) built by High Octane Racing for the 2013 racing season and mated to a nice sized turbocharger. ...Published on 04-08-2013 11:10 PM
Bike versus car comparisons are always fun although the straightline comparison pretty much always goes to the bike. This one is fun though because first of all it includes the new facelifted R10 V10 Plus model. This 5.2 liter V10 R8 has the new 7-speed dual clutch transmission and a 542 horsepower tune for the V10 engine. It is the most powerful R8 available from the factory. With Audi acquiring Ducati for $1.1 billion a comparison between a Ducati bike and Audi car was naturally going to happen. ...
