MisterEm replied to the thread Who has the strongest turbo E46 M3 on BimmerBoost?.
" If I had to put my money down today I would give the nod to both Marcus and Kenton's Turbo 46Ms. That may change if the 900rwhp/600rwtq barrier is attainable with the DCT holding. That would be a pretty tight race considering the 46M both have a weight and area under the curve advantage.

It will be fun to see these cars run regardless of the outcome or circumstances. "

I hope that is not the case but I wouldn't be surprised. That is pretty sad way to make a buck if you ask me... I could not look at myself in the mirror making a dollar off of another's dedication in my field.

Lame. "

No worries. I don't take the interwebz too seriously.

I misinterpret posts daily when I plug away from the phone. "

" @vasillalov

Give Rich at the rackdoctor a call (843)-933-4045. He has 335 racks in stock and I am sure he can source you an E9X rack for compatibility comparison although one is not appearing on the website. I received a ton of BAD internet and keyboard warrior dis-information performing this swap on my 46M last year and I almost dropped the idea. Albeit a different chassis you are trying to perform the same swap.

I went with a ZHP rack (13.7:1 or 3.0 Turns to Lock) from the OE 46M (15.4:1 or 3.5 Turns to Lock) and couldn't be happier. Instantly the car is more athletic and I have tried many combinations of coilovers, swaybars, and a variety of mounts/bushings in 5+ years of ownership. Best suspension/handling upgrade - PERIOD. The car feels like it shed weight. Seriously.

Rich was extremely helpful throughout the process and the pricing was excellent ($260 with core). He is also a bimmer nut with a stable of Z3's of various power levels.

At the very least, he could tell you if they physically bolt up. "

" Kenton is the infamous reverse sandbagging Imola Stage 2.75 who shook your hand at the Max PSI event apparently.

His car is well sort out for sure. I really admire the attention to EVERY detail both he and Marcus take. Should be fun for all. "

" @Commanderwiggin and @ZooyorQ are the likely candidates. I am not sure if Marcus' car is running yet but Kenton's car seems to break hearts at these events even when he reverse sandbags!

If we could get a VTT STage 3 and a Vishnu ST in the mix that would be epic albeit a pipe dream. "

I have a vbox so soon enough I will be able to log my shifts for comparison.
Confused? I think you agreed with me in a backhanded way but I am not sure. It is tough to discern tone from email/forum posts/text messages. In case you read my post backwards, I put the SMG in the same category as a slow shifting noodle/stick. DCTs and purpose built Autos will always be quicker than either (SMG or Manual of any kind). I still prefer to row but I know it is slower.

Lots of data available for you Stinky to mull over from the same cars. From fully built T56 magnum rowers versus a Th350/400 (GT500 mustangs, Camaros etc) in the same car to stock 6mt versus a powerglide/th400 setup (2JZ Supras). Mustang, Corvette, Camaro and Supra worlds have had a couple of decades teasing out the differences.

The data I used to see was merely 60 ft times and 1/8 mile trap speeds when I first got into this debate (mid 90's). Lucky for you,
Vbox logs are EVERYWHERE these days. "

I was wondering the same thing... I doubt the motor will fall on its face the final 1,000 rpm but maybe he is setting himself up for a pleasant surprise once the clutches hold? Who knows...

If the S54B32 heads were CNC cut from the factory in 2001 (intake ports have CNC marks).... you can bet your britches the 12:1 S65B40 is CNC cut as well.

Much like the BMW M heads before it, the gains would be realized in RPM ceiling with springs, delicate clean up of the CNC marks, and a proper valve-job. Call me crazy, but I smell 900 whp with some massaged OE S65 heads. "

Mert is correct gentleman. Manual rowing will not hold a candle to a properly built auto transmission. Plenty of vbox data out there for you to mull over. Notice the force loss, and boost loss between each gear change with a manual or SMG box.

I am a manual guy myself but I understand its limitations.

Add boost and it is really not fair as the auto holds the boost and maintains higher g's between each gear. "
