So I finally got my build underway (somewhat) Decided to build a desktop rather than buying some gaming laptop.

First thing I got was my case...

Corsair 300R - Got it for $50 on black friday @ microcenter, too good of a deal to pass up

    Also ordered a SSD

SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD128BW - $149 but came with Assasins Creed III for free which is kinda cool

Don't know what to do in terms of AMD vs Intel. Maybe you guys can shed some light on that situation.

Probably going to go with a CORSAIR HX Series HX750 power supply, and thats really as far as I have gotten lmao

Haven't really thought about video cards since the only game I'll really be playing is Counter Strike: GO. I don't think that it requires a super crazy video card. I was thinking a GTX670?

I'm just looking for something reliable and something I can occasionally edit some photos and play some counter strike. I would like it to last about 3 years before it needs a refresh

If all you can do is 1080p the size of that screen is ridiculous.
If you sit that close to it you will probably not enjoy the experience for long...

A 670 will be plenty for games like BF3 on Ultra for above 45 FPS (which is plenty). Thats what i use it for

I've been doing a ton of reading since the last time I read this thread and apparently the AMD 7970 with the latest drivers seems to be the TRUTH!!!

I'll probably be picking up a video card sometime this week. I just have to figure out which one I want GHZ edition or not

Several items (mobo/fans) have been switched out already, but here is a general idea.

Reason I think I'm going to do the 7970 over the GTX is because the 7970 got better reviews and had better performance for multi monitor support

Dude your build looks awesome! I think you may have convinced me to get the i5-3570k. Seems like the best bang for the buck intel processor

It truly is. No point in the 3770k (unless you do MASSIVE amounts of rendering), and i wouldnt get anything lower than the 3570k.

Awesome deal! The 3770k is basically the best processor available for us mere mortals (3960x is just a waste of money).

What other components are going into it? 7970 and....?

Well I'm still in the air about the video card. Still can't decide between a 7970 or the gtx680.

I've been looking at a couple of asrock mobo's and some asus ones. I'm clearly going intel now lol. Ill probably end up doing the same water cooler as you (corsair h80?) and 12gb of ram.

Hard drive is my Samsung pro 840 128gb ssd and a 1tb secondary drive. Not sure how much more $#@! will be throw in it besides the basics as of now

Either video card will wreck games like BF3 @ 1080p, but if u decide to run multiple monitors, it may change your choice.

I suggest Asus mobos, as ive had great luck with them. As far as water-cooling, the H80 is a great option. NZXT is coming out with another all-in-one solution as well. And then theres the custom loops, which are the best. And 12 GB RAM is planty for a gaming rig.

I used the P8Z77-V normal before i switched to my Maximus V Formula. Both work great, and i highly recommend the P8Z77-V series.

    Nice set up!

This is the RAM i am using, its nice:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231489

    Heres a nice optical drive:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135204

Thats the one i use, pretty standard, i got it because i would rather pay $5 more and get an Asus over this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106289

Either will work. One is $18 shipped, one is $25 shipped. Splitting hairs haha i rarely ever use an optical drive. Im considering taking it out.

The only reason why I'm actually gonna buy one is because I need it to boot up off the windows disc for initial setup lmao
