Audi targeting curb weight of 2200 pounds for a lightweight and high performance variant of the next generation TT
1000 kilograms is 2204 pounds. This is exactly the amount Audi is targeting for a lightweight, high performance model of the next generation Audi TT. Lofty goal? Absolutely, but they seem serious about it. The new Audi head of technical development Wolfgang Durheimer is setting the bar very high, ďA car in the TT segment weighing 1,000kg would be a very interesting proposition. It would be a derivative of the TT and the challenge is to make it a quattro too Ė thatís what Iíve asked my engineers.Ē
The fun does not stop there as he also wants to give it a high output version of the TT-RS turbocharged 2.5 liter inline-5 motor, "Weíre talking about a high-power output here, so I would like it to be a five-cylinder engine. Oh, and donít forget a roll cage in the back."
This all sounds absolutely excellent to a German Automotive performance enthusiast's ears. A 2200 pound curb weight Quattro likely won't happen but a lightweight version in the 2XXX range with the 2.5 TFSI inline-5 would be incredible. Not to mention if the lightweight Quattro concept does not see production this would essentially be practically the same thing.
Very lofty goals at Audi these days with many of them being high performance oriented.

I don't think Audi can make 1000kg, all wheel drive, be street legal in the US, and keep the price under $80,000 at the same time.

That is stepping up the bar if it is in fact completed at the attempted weight. Lightweight...what a concept.
I imagine the E9X (or the 46M) at 3,000 lbs with most of the fixings and I'd be a happy camper.
