    • The 2020 Audi S6 drops the 4.0 TFSI V8 in favor of the EA839 2.0 twin turbo V6 - Step back?

Most buyers will not notice the difference here as the twin turbocharged 2.9 V6 under the hood of the 2020 C8 Audi S6 essentially matches the output of the C7 S6 in factory form. It was when tuning though that the 4.0 TFSI V8 S6 became such a value.

You could easily match RS6 performance or even swap over the RS6 turbos and pair them to a dual clutch all wheel drive drivetrain. There will not be any more of that happening.

The C8 S6 does not only lose the V8 it loses the dual clutch transmission. Blame cost cutting on this one but the automatic transmission will be the same ZF-8 speed automatic that basically everything in the lineup is moving to.

Audi states there is an electric supercharger involved here which is boosting torque but details on the system are sparse.

The new design is nice inside and out but give AudiBoost the C7 generation S6. A twin turbo V8 paired with a dual clutch all wheel drive drivetrain is quite simply more fun. Not to mention, the EA839 V6 ECU is still locked from tuners.

The new S6 is a step back for enthusiasts.

Hugely disappointing... the base model has always shared the S4 motor while the S6 had something unique.

Yikes. B58 5 series will walk all over this for cheaper.

Everyone is disappointed, i mean 0-100 in 5s, that's a joke, they just ruined a whole generation that was long waited for, everyone was expecting good stuff, but it seems that a guy with an S5 will be faster or as fast, i mean A6 55 tfsi can do 0-100 in 5.1s, wtf is this, im sorry but they are just faster A6/7, wth were they thinking, did they want to make a performance car or just make one just to save money, im sorry boys but im furious.

The engine is the 2.9L Twin Turbo.
        It has two electric assists.
EPC Electric powered compressor rated at 7kw. Based on the media and same torque value as RS4/5 the compressor is only used to hit boost target as a lag reduction mechanism.
Here is good video of the tech on the diesels.

MHEV This is a electric motor tech connected by a belt to the crankshaft and is used for maintaining speed at very light load for a fixed amount of time.
        Another video covering it.

The A6/7 comes with the MHEV already with the 3.0T single turbo engine which we cover with the JB4. If sensor layout for the new S6/7 is the same as the RS4/5 we already have a 530hp solution for these. @Terry@BMS now needs to figure out a command to turn all the electric assists on at once and users will feel like Formula 1 drivers using KERS Click here to enlarge

As George says, it’s the 2.9L TT for the US. Other regions get a 3L diesel. The diesel is spec’d at 5.1s 0-100kph. The gas versions are estimated to be closer to 4s.

In the end, I agree that it’s still a step back. The DSG/V8TT was awesome.

I also read that it will have 450hp from a 2.9tt and that it will have electric assist tech. Thanks for the details.

a 7kw electric compressor could, hopefully, be modified to provide more than just lag reduction and instead turn on at will to provide a little compounded boost action.

I hope terry is successful George!

The problem is that 350 HP ain't that fast at all, yes George we appreciate the details that you shared but we talk about stock S6/7 here, if you say you have a solution for 530 HP why didn't Audi make that kinda power why only 350 hp, when you make a performance car you make it as fast as possible not make one just to reduce costs and save money.

        It's 450. My mistake writing 3.0 not 2.9.

My mistake everyone, it's the twin not the single. Everything else written stands.

They said Europe will get the TDI version with 350 HP, and 450 HP for US middle east and Asia, and about the transmission, is it the same with RS4/or its different ??

I'm not sure if Europe only gets the 3.0 version but maybe.

The trans should be similar if not identical.

That's another thing that I'm worried about, coz the RS4/5 gearbox doesn't pickup speed that fast when cruising, idk if that can be fixed by an update or something, coz we have been waiting for these S6/7 for a long time, we don't want no Mercedes nor BMW winning more performance awards.

I'm with you. I'm not into cars without a dual clutch or manual option anyway.

Objectively its a better car for most people, but there is no getting away from the backstep for enthusiasts
