    • Audi considering even more hardcore and lightweight GT3 inspired rear wheel drive R8?

The next generation Audi R8 is going to be a completely different car. We have plenty of time until it hits the market though so Audi certainly can squeeze more variants out of the current mid-engine V10 platform.

An idea being tossed around is a hardcore rear wheel drive version based on the R8 GT3 race car. This would be even lighter and far more aggressive than the limited edition RWS R8 Audi already built.

      Audi's Oliver Hoffman stated:

We have some good ideas for a more extreme R8 as we know the powerful exterior design of our racing car is amazing - people want to drive this on the street.

The racing car engine is almost identical to the road car's, so that's already proven, but we have the GT3 drivers doing chassis testing for us. For example, Frank Stippler, he's driving our GT3 car and is also our development guy doing the Nurburgring testing for road cars.
All of that sounds nice but Audi building an even more extreme rear wheel drive R8 probably will not happen. AudiBoost would love for Audi to prove us wrong and actually do it though.

Wouldn’t be hard to make it more extreme without touching the engine. Ecu only they have another 70 hp on tap. Another 30 on top of that with the performante hardware package.
