    • Hair from 9's - Iroz Motorsport runs a 10.09@142.4 1/4 mile in their turbo upgraded 8V Audi RS3 sedan

This is incredible and why BoostAddict.com picked the new Audi 2.5 TFSI I5 as its 2017 engine of the year. Iroz Motorsport made their way out to Famoso Raceway in California this past weekend with their Audi RS3 sedan and almost broke into the 9's.

They managed a 10.090 @ 142.42 on a 1.602 60 foot. This is on the stock motor and stock DSG dual clutch transmission. It's almost too good to be true.

Keep in mind also it is very warm in Southern California right now with temps over 90 degrees yesterday. Density altitude was in the 700 foot range at the time of the run.

As for what was necessary Iroz used their custom Xona Rotor turbocharger upgrade and pulled some weight from the car.

The intercooler and downpipe are Iroz pieces but the airbox and exhaust after the downpipe is stock.

      What do you even say?

        Yes, upgraded turbo.

You can run mid 10's with bolt ons though.

This is what it did full weight, without pulled rear seats:

RS3’s are going for $70k+ before taxes, still an awesome motor.

Still a bargain and easily worth it.

Better car than the RS4 or RS5...

Nope, this is the cheapest that turned up in my area, but plenty available sub 65k.

Part of me wants the Rs4 avant to show up stateside, but I honestly think I'd rather see the Rs3 Hatch brought over. Clearly the better performance option.

To early to tell there, with the RS4 and RS5 running a TTV6 it's hard to say what those will end up after some tuning. Hell we don't even know what the S4 will end up after tuning. The weight is for sure an advantage for the RS3, but I'm still really interested in the S4 and RS4.

Not just the weight, the dual clutch transmission.

On top of that, you have a dual-injection system on the 2.5 TFSI. The 2.9 V6 is direct injection only I believe.

You forget this basic 2.5 TFSI has existed for 8+ years and this is the best iteration yet. There will be debate between the aluminum/iron blocks but I'll take the fuel system upgrades.

You forget the 2.5 TFSI is proven. You forget there are many 1000+ horsepower examples. You forget it runs mid 10's with bolt ons. You forget Iroz hasn't even touched the motor on this RS3. You forget when they have touched the 2.5 TFSI motor they have run 9's in a hot Vegas climate.

Too early to tell? Where have you been? The freaking RS3 sedan is running McLaren 720S times with a turbo upgrade. The RS4/RS5 are embarrassing in comparison.

This turbo still has plenty more in it. The owner says they're looking for another 200+ hp on the same turbo once the bottom end is built. This is simply the 'stock motor' tune. I'd be willing to bet the hybrid they're working on will run the same times. Hopefully, this car is an indicator of 'what to expect' for all of the coming dual injection motors because it really is a game changer in the performance per dollar category.

I've been looking for a second gen TT RS to pick up over the last few months, and they're tough to find in theUS with only ~1,200 sold, but these cars can be had dirt cheap (high teens) in Europe. There is a ton of R&D that has gone into this motor over the last decade that we're finally recognizing here.

I'm not discounting how good the RS3 is. I just haven't seen any tuning come out for the RS4/5, if you have I would love to see the figures it makes.

Agreed. I'm not sure one would call better than RS5 just yet. I've heard initial reviews the RS5 handling/steering feel is much better w newer model...Tuning to be seen. For the look department, RS5 hands down of course!

I've been saying this for a while now, but RS3 is the best bargin euro sports car out there... once they build the motor and add +200hp and stip out some more weight it will be knocking at the door of 8's and 150+ trap

this motor, tranny and weight combo is proving to be an icon in the making ...

Yeah, Manhart claims about 500 with some tune.

I just don't see the RS4/RS5 topping this. New motor that isn't offering the same gains and has to deal with top mounted twins instead of a big single.

Plus the 2.5 TFSI can rev to 9k+ as Iroz has shown in built applications. The 2.5 TFSI ECU is also mapped out better for tuners.

I haven't seen anything impressive from the RS4/RS5 and firmly believe the 2.5 TFSI in the lighter chassis with a dual clutch transmission is simply the better option based on current results and the past heights the engine architecture has achieved.

If we really get down to it, the RS3 is already topping the RS7 let alone the RS4/RS5 that still have to prove themselves.

By the time the RS4 hits 140 in the 1/4 the RS3 will be doing 150+.

For folks getting close to golden 50, I would pick up a 2 years old S6 and slap RS7 turbos on. Fast, roomy and in style ;-)

They'll be ready with this setup sooner than you think. Might take them a hot minute to get the dsg solution together, but the motor will likely be ready in short order.
