    • The B9 Audi RS5 takes on a Competition Package BMW F82 M4 in a drag race

Finally some action with the new B9 RS5 against its competition! The cars are said to have the same power but without a dyno test or trap speeds who knows really. In the video the guy states he thinks BMW may be underrating their cars. Uh, gee, ya think?

The S55 motor in the M4 we all know but the 2.9 liter V6 in the RS5 is new to us. It is showing remarkable performance numbers in the Porsche Panamera 4S which shares the engine.

The RS5 is lighter than the Panamera but by how much? We need to see an independent weight test.

Obviously the all wheel drive and automatic Audi will have the advantage from a stop. That is how it plays out here but surprisingly the M4 closes the distance and pulls past it.

That implies the M4 is making more power but the dual clutch transmission likely helps and it also is likely quite a bit lighter.

Either way, Competition Package F80 M3's and M4's do not have anything to fear but base M3's and M4's will likely need a power bump to compete with the B9 RS4/RS5.

Something just seems off about that M4. It gets beat off the line, which is expected. But the rate at which it runs down and puts a car length in such a short distance is odd. I could see M4 running them down in a longer race. Maybe it is the people driving them?

Two other videos showing new RS5 taking the win.

But that top one isn't a Competition.

You mean the bottom. The top is a Comp pack.

pretty sure it has to do with the power, 331Kw = 450hp. Audi is real about the 450hp in the rs5 and BMW is not, its probably closer to 500hp or even a little more.

We know the BMW S55 is underrated, its not 444hp, there is no way in hell. People are getting that at the wheels on a dynojet...so not really apples to apples unless you give the Rs5 a stage 1 tune

will be interesting to see what the rs5 does with upgraded turbos....

        That's right.

The thing is traction is enough to change the outcome. That South African video has a crap launch and is a crap comparison.

These guys need to share data but honestly I don't find it hard to believe the M4 Competition can win from a roll.

No idea why some people will not accept BMW is sandbagging... hard.

From roll of course or even a longer race from a dig, I fully understand the M4 should slowly claw back the gap(keyword slowly). But from a dig in 1/4 mile, that M4 from behind was pulling like it had another 200hp(1:17 in video). The other videos the RS5 for the most part maintains gap from awd launch against M4 Comp. Against the non-Comp M4 the RS5 maintains multiple car length gap from a dig. Both videos I posted are easily understandable. The OP video just seems weird.

Right but look at its launch and the tarmac they are on. Looked like it could cut 1.7X 60 foots there on street tires which is enough to mitigate the RS5 launch with enough length IMO.
